The Ci5160REFM-THX is an in-wall speaker in KEF's Ci-Reference range and the company's first in-wall model to reach THX Certified Dominus, the largest THX performance class. It combines a Uni-Q driver array, in which the mid and high frequency units share one axis, with Metamaterial Absorption Technology on the tweeter to absorb unwanted sound.
Low frequencies come from four 160mm (6.5in.) drivers working with a vented motor system designed for in-wall use. The tweeter is a 25mm vented aluminium dome and the midrange unit is 125mm (5.25in.). The 11mm precision-machined aluminium baffle is finished in hairline black with a grey Uni-Q array. A paintable magnetic metal grille is fitted and an optional black cloth grille is available. The speaker is designed and hand-built in Maidstone, UK.
Installation is into a wall cut-out of 1052 mm x 209 mm, with 99mm mounting depth and a recommended rear volume of 90 litres (minimum 40 litres). It is a passive 4Ω speaker that needs an external amplifier rated 50 - 500 W.
