Description

The U 47 fet Bon Scott Edition is a cardioid, pressure-gradient large diaphragm condenser microphone based on the FET model Neumann introduced in 1972 and built until 1986. It uses the K 47 capsule and the same headgrille design as the original tube U 47, together with an oversized output transformer, and a transistorized head amplifier. The stated dynamic range is 119 dB.

Compared with the standard model, this edition has a matte black finish plus graphics, Bon Scott's name and his signature on the housing. It handles up to 137 dB SPL, or 147 dB SPL with the -10 dB pad engaged. Pad and low cut switches sit on the rear, and a further switch beside the XLR socket lowers the output by 6 dB, which suits vintage preamps with limited headroom. A one-sided swivel mount simplifies positioning.

The microphone connects through a 3-pin XLR and runs on 48 V phantom power. It ships in a black wooden box with a booklet containing an interview with producer Harry Vanda. Part of the proceeds goes to Support Act Australia.
