The 2M Red is the starting point of Ortofon's 2M moving-magnet range. It uses an elliptical diamond stylus on an aluminium cantilever and a quad-coil generator with split pole pins and OFC coil wire. Output is 5.5 mV at 1 kHz, and the recommended tracking force is 1.8 g.
The body is polymer and aluminium in black and red, and it weighs 7.2 g. The 2M series was styled with Møller Jensen Design and is designed and made in Denmark. It mounts on half-inch fixings, which suits most common turntables.
The wider 2M family comes in several configurations: the standard 2M, the Premounted for S-shaped tonearms, the Verso for bottom-mount headshells, and the 2MR for low-profile Rega-type tonearms. For loading, the recommended values are 47 kOhm resistance and 150-300 pF capacitance, which is the usual setup for a moving-magnet input.
