The Pick it MM 5 is a moving-magnet cartridge produced by Ortofon and tuned by Pro-Ject's design team. It carries a nude elliptical stylus on a cantilever derived from high-end DJ designs, and is intended to bring out fine record detail with a clearly located stereo image and a large sound stage.
It uses Ortofon's split pole pin construction, which gives a frequency response that the maker compares to moving-coil cartridges. The specification lists 20–25,000 Hz (±2 dB), 4 mV output, 25 dB channel separation at 1 kHz and a recommended tracking force of 1.8 g. It suits tonearms of low to medium effective mass.
Mounting follows the 1/2 inch standard, and the body has threaded holes so it can be fitted without nuts. It connects to a phono stage with the recommended load of 47 kΩ and 150–300 pF. The stylus is available separately as a replacement, and the cartridge is made in Europe.
