Workhorse

The Workhorse is a rack for 500-series modules with eight slots. Alongside the module slots it contains an analog summing mixer with eight inputs and two outputs, and a patching system that lets modules be routed in different arrangements. The power supply is described as providing plenty of current for power-hungry modules.

A dual-output headphone bus is included for monitoring, so a signal can be sent to a recorder and to headphones at the same time. Typical uses include building a channel strip from a preamp, EQ and compressor, assembling an eight-channel recording system with eight mic preamp modules, and recording an instrument with a preamp before sending it back out for reamping with separate reamp tools. An expansion slot allows the system to grow to 16, 24 or 32 channels.

Input and output connections are made through DB25, TRS and XLR connectors. The maker lists the unit as discontinued and no longer shipping, with specifications and user information kept available for existing owners.
