The i-XY is a stereo microphone designed to plug into Lightning-equipped Apple devices such as the iPhone and iPad. It records at up to 24-bit/48 kHz and has built-in high-fidelity analogue-to-digital conversion, so the signal is digitised in the microphone itself.
The pickup consists of a matched pair of half-inch cardioid condenser capsules. They are fixed at a 90-degree near-coincident angle (an XY arrangement), which is intended to give a natural stereo image with good detail and without an extra stereo-bar or mounting rig.
