The TAC-2R is a 2-in/2-out audio interface that connects over Thunderbolt and runs at sample rates up to 192 kHz with 24-bit resolution. Typical round-trip latency is 4.17 ms at 44.1 kHz with a 64-sample buffer. Conversion uses 4x upsampling during A/D and D/A stages, and an asynchronous transfer system keeps the audio independent of computer jitter.
Two XLR/TRS combo inputs accept mic or line signals, each with its own gain control (0 to 60 dB) and clip LED. Hi-Z switches allow guitar or bass to be plugged in directly, and switchable +48V phantom power is provided. Outputs are two balanced 1/4" TRS jacks plus a 1/4" headphone jack with its own level control. A large knob sets output volume, and a Direct Monitoring switch gives zero-latency monitoring in mono or stereo.
MIDI In and Out on 5-pin DIN jacks let the unit double as a MIDI interface. It takes its power from the Thunderbolt bus, uses a metal housing, and is listed for Thunderbolt-equipped Macs running macOS 10.14 to 13 (Intel Mac only).
