The U-24 is a small USB audio interface that records two channels and plays back four, at up to 24-bit/96 kHz. Its two combo XLR/TRS inputs each have a gain knob and a multi-colour level indicator. Both inputs can supply +48V phantom power, and input 1 has a Hi-Z mode for guitars, basses and other passive instruments. The preamps are the same low-noise type used in the maker's H5 and H6 recorders.
Outputs are a pair of TRS jacks, a pair of RCA jacks and a separate headphone output with its own volume control. This makes it possible to feed DJ mixers, monitors and headphones at once. Direct monitoring has no latency, and the cue and main signals can be balanced for DJ use, or a click track can be mixed with the main out for live playing. MIDI in and out on 5-pin DIN connectors are included.
The unit connects over USB 2.0 and runs from bus power, an optional AC adapter or two AA batteries, which give about 4 hours of use with phantom power off. It works with Windows, macOS and iPhone/iPad (with a camera connection adapter and external power). Ableton Live Lite is bundled, and Cubasis LE is available free for iPad.
