The irDAC converts digital audio from several sources to an analogue line-level signal. It uses a Texas Instruments PCM1796 converter, with digital and analogue stages isolated from each other and eight separately regulated power supplies. Its circuitry is derived from the maker's reference D33 DAC and is intended to keep jitter very low.
Inputs cover asynchronous USB, S/PDIF, optical and a direct iPod connection, which takes the digital signal straight from a supported Apple device. It handles sample rates from 44.1kHz to 192kHz at 16-bit and 24-bit depths, and delivers a 2.2Vrms line output.
An infra-red remote handset selects the inputs. Through the HID controller it can also control PCs, Macs and iPod, iPhone and iPad devices. The unit is small, at 190 x 120 x 44mm, and draws up to 7W. Software, a Windows driver, a user manual and an FAQ are available as downloads.
