Rainbow Machine
Rainbow Machine is a polyphonic pitch-shifting guitar pedal built on a DSP engine that is deliberately imperfect. It suits experimental players who want pitch-shifted harmonies, chorus, shimmer and self-oscillating noise rather than natural tones.
- Polyphonic pitch shifting from a fourth below to a third above
- Magic regeneration control with self-oscillation
- Flexi-Switch footswitches for latching or momentary use
- Secondary control adds an octave above or below the harmony
- Pitch can be controlled by expression pedal
- 9 V DC, 2.1 mm negative-center barrel, 68 mA

The Rainbow Machine is a digital effects pedal that shifts pitch polyphonically in real time using digital oscillators. The Pitch control sets the harmony from a fourth below the input to a third above, including all the atonal steps between, with noon as unison. A Primary control sets the harmony level, Secondary adds an octave of that harmony, Tracking sets the lag between wet and dry signals, and Tone rolls off treble for a darker sound.
The Magic control is a regeneration circuit that feeds the harmony signals back on themselves. Low settings add extra repeats, and higher settings move through ambience, pitch-shifting delays, metallic flanging, controllable self-oscillation, synthetic noise and distortion. With Pitch at noon the pedal works as a chorus. Pitch above or below noon makes trails ascend or descend.
Both the Activate and Magic footswitches are silent relay-based Flexi-Switch units that work either latching or momentary: tap to toggle, or hold to use the effect only while pressed. Pitch can also be controlled with an expression pedal. The pedal runs from a 9 V DC supply.
