The SLX DX in Silver Mercury Crackle is a double-humbucker guitar with a contoured basswood body and a maple neck that runs the full length of the instrument. Graphite rods sit beside the truss rod, and a scarf joint forms the angled headstock. The crackle paint covers the front, back and the rear of the neck, so each guitar looks slightly different.

The bound laurel fingerboard has a 12" to 16" compound radius, 24 jumbo frets and pearloid sharkfin inlays. Scale length is 25.5" and nut width is 1.6875". The nut is a Floyd Rose R3 locking type, and the headstock is the pointed 6-in-line Jackson shape with white binding.

Two Jackson high-output humbuckers are controlled by a three-position blade switch, one volume and one tone control. Bridge-only, both pickups together, and neck-only are the available settings. A recessed Floyd Rose Special double-locking tremolo handles pitch bends, and the guitar has black hardware, dome-style knobs and Jackson sealed die-cast tuners. It is strung with nickel plated steel .009-.042 strings.
