Reference 3 Meta

The Reference 3 Meta is a passive floorstanding speaker sold as a pair. It is a three-way bass-reflex design with a 12th generation Uni-Q driver array that acts as a single point source, spreading sound evenly so the listening position is less critical. A 165 mm (6.5 inch) low-frequency driver works alongside the Uni-Q array.

Metamaterial Absorption Technology (MAT) is a maze-like structure behind the driver that absorbs 99% of unwanted rear sound to reduce distortion. Shadow Flare reduces cabinet diffraction around the Uni-Q array. The cabinet shape and bracing were developed with finite element analysis, and Constrained Layer Damping converts remaining vibration into heat. Flexible Port Technology allows the bass to be adjusted to the room, and the speaker is described as undemanding about placement.

The speaker is designed, engineered and hand-built in Maidstone, Kent, UK. Each pair can be matched within 0.5 dB to a laboratory-maintained reference standard. It connects to a separate amplifier rated for 50 to 300 W and is offered in five colour finishes.
