The CINEMA 40 is a nine-channel Class A/B AV receiver with discrete power amplification, rated at 125 W per channel into 8 ohms (20 Hz–20 kHz, 0.05% THD, 2-channel drive). Its preamp section processes up to 11.4 channels and supports Dolby Atmos, Dolby TrueHD, DTS:X, Auro-3D, IMAX Enhanced, 360 Reality Audio and MPEG-H. Audyssey MultEQ XT32 handles room correction, and the unit can be upgraded to Dirac Live.
Video side: seven HDMI inputs (all 8K) and three outputs, including eARC. It passes 8K at 60 Hz and 4K at 120 Hz, with HDR10+, Dolby Vision, HLG, VRR, QFT and ALLM for gaming, and upscales 1080p/4K to 8K. There is also a phono (MM) input, five analog inputs, optical and coaxial digital inputs, and 11.4-channel preamp outputs with four independent subwoofer outputs.
For networking, it has Ethernet, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth (with transmit to headphones). HEOS provides multi-room streaming, along with AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, TuneIn and a range of streaming services. Roon, Alexa, Google Assistant, Apple HomePod and IP/RS232 control systems are supported, and three zones are available.
