The Studio 900 Head is a compact two-channel guitar amplifier built around valves. It recreates the character of the 100W JCM900 at a 20W output, with a clean, crunch and high-gain range of tones. Each channel can be set up separately, so players can move between two distinct sounds.
The power stage can be switched between 20W, 5W and below 1W, which allows the output to be matched to a stage, a rehearsal room or a recording situation. The circuit uses two ECC83 preamp valves, one ECC83 phase splitter and two 5881 power valves, combined with solid-state components in a hybrid design. Controls cover gain, treble, middle, bass, presence and volume, and an integrated spring reverb and an effects loop are included.
The head has five quarter-inch jack sockets for speaker outputs (16Ω, 8Ω and 4Ω loads) and a DI output, with a compensated DI option for recording. It measures 510 x 245 x 240 mm and weighs 11.2 kg. It is designed and made in the UK, in the same Bletchley factory as the original JCM900.
