Description

The 848 is a rack-style audio interface that connects to Mac, PC and iOS over Thunderbolt 4 or USB4 through the supplied 40 Gbps USB-C cable, and it falls back to Thunderbolt 3, USB3 and USB2 hosts. The connection carries 256 channels of computer I/O (128 in, 128 out) at sample rates up to 96 kHz. All 28 inputs and 32 outputs can be used at the same time.

Four combo inputs offer mic preamps with individual gain, pad and 48V phantom power, plus a high-impedance guitar input option. Inputs 3-4 have insert send/return loops, and an unused return works as an extra line input. Other features include two ADAT/S/MUX optical banks, two headphone outputs, DC-coupled analog outputs for CV control of modular gear, A/B/C speaker select with talkback, and a Monitor Group that controls up to twelve outputs for surround setups.

The onboard 64-channel mixer has 26 aux buses, plus main, reverb, monitor and solo buses. Every input and output bus has 4-band parametric EQ and a compressor, and input channels add a high-pass filter and gate. A patchbay and Routing Grid handle routing. The built-in Milan AVB switch with two Gigabit Ethernet ports allows daisy-chaining and networking with other AVB devices. CueMix Pro for macOS, Windows and iOS controls the unit, including over Wi-Fi.
