Description

The M 50 V is a reissue of the final 1960s revision of the M 50, the M 50 c, built to original specifications from the maker's archive. It is a pressure-transducer microphone with a fixed omni pattern. The small-diaphragm capsule sits flush in a 40 mm acrylic sphere, so the pattern is omnidirectional at low frequencies and becomes gradually more directional above 1000 Hz, with a smooth treble rise. Bass response extends to subsonic frequencies without proximity effect.

The K 33 Ti capsule has the same acoustics as the older K 53, but the diaphragm, backplate and housing are all titanium for better temperature and long-term stability. The circuit matches the M 50 c, using a lower-noise subminiature tube. The low-frequency corner is set to 12 Hz and can be changed to 30 Hz by Neumann Service through an internal switch.

The microphone connects with a 7-pin RF-proof connector taken from the broadcast M 250, via the supplied KC 5 cable to the NM V linear power supply, which has an XLR 3 F output. The NM V adjusts the heater voltage and mains voltage automatically. The set also has a yoke mount with mechanical decoupling and a cable holder, and a case. Everything is handmade in Germany.
