The BB5i is the biggest of PMC's three-way, stand-mounted ATL reference monitors. It pairs a 27 mm soft-dome tweeter and a 75 mm fabric-dome midrange with a 380 mm Radial bass driver, all loaded by an Advanced Transmission Line with an effective length of 4 m. The bass driver's exposed frame doubles as a heat sink.
A hand-built 24 dB per octave crossover divides the bands at 380 Hz and 3.8 kHz, using hand-selected, matched components. The cabinet is specified for 17 Hz to 25 kHz response, 91 dB sensitivity and a 4 ohm impedance, with 500 to 1200 W of amplifier power recommended.
Connection is by three pairs of 4 mm sockets, so the speaker can be run tri-wired or tri-amped. Matching BB5-Ci horizontal centre speakers and XB3 subwoofers are available for surround setups, and pre-tuned stands exist for the large i series models. Registering the product within 10 days of purchase extends the warranty to 20 years, subject to terms.
