The Z-2 is the bookshelf model in QUAD's Z Series ribbon loudspeaker range. It is a two-way, bass-reflex design in a 15-litre cabinet. A 175mm glass fibre driver handles bass and a 90x12mm true ribbon handles treble, with the crossover at 3.4kHz. The ribbon tweeter uses a sandwich construction intended to make it robust and able to take high power.
Quoted frequency response is 50Hz to 20kHz (+/-3dB), with bass extension to 45Hz at -6dB. Sensitivity is 84dB (1W at 1m), nominal impedance is 8Ω and the minimum is 4.6Ω, so the speaker is paired with an amplifier rated at 40-200W. The cabinet is curved and finished in piano lacquer, offered in black, white and rosewood.
The speaker is a passive model with no AV shielding. It measures 421 x 243 x 329mm and weighs 9kg. A brochure and manual are available as downloads.
