The StageBug SB-5W is a transformer-isolated, passive stereo direct box intended for permanent installation in a single-gang wall plate. It converts an unbalanced stereo source into a low-impedance balanced signal, and the dual transformers remove hum and buzz caused by ground loops. No power is required.
The front panel has a 3.5mm TRS jack and RCA connectors for the source, plus a fully variable level control for volume adjustment. Set-and-forget switches provide a ground lift and a mono sum that combines the left and right channels when needed.
Outputs are on screw terminals with tie-down points for tie-wraps, which keeps wiring quick and secure for contractors. The balanced output can feed a PA system up to 100 meters away. Typical uses include a laptop via the mini jack, a tablet or phone via its headphone output, or a CD player or hi-fi via the RCA inputs.
