The instrument pairs a 76-key semi-weighted keyboard with channel aftertouch with three sound engines: ZEN-Core, V-Piano Technology and SuperNATURAL Acoustic. It holds over 3,500 tones and more than 90 drum kits. Expansions from the EXZ and EXSN series can be downloaded from Roland Cloud and written into internal memory from a USB flash drive. Sounds are organised in 16 zones and 128 scenes across 4 banks, with scene chains for arranging a set.
Production tools include a 16-track MIDI sequencer with realtime, step and TR-REC recording and a piano roll editor. There is a keyboard multisampler and a 16-pad sampler with 4 banks, sharing about 2 GB of internal file storage. An analog-style filter section, a vocoder, an arpeggiator, chord memory, a rhythm pattern function and a large effects set are also included. Control comes from 8 knobs, 8 sliders, 4 x 4 pads, two wheels and a 7-inch colour touchscreen.
Connections include balanced XLR and 1/4-inch main outputs, sub and analog outputs, two mic/line inputs, MIDI, two CV outs and two gate outs, pedal jacks, a USB memory port and a USB computer port for audio and MIDI. AIRA LINK is supported when connected to an MX-1.
