Description

The unit packs eight preamps based on the PureDrive design first used in the ORIGIN console into a 2U rack chassis. Each channel can be set to a clean mode, a Classic Drive mode that emphasises odd harmonics, or an Asymmetric Drive mode that emphasises even harmonics. Gain is stepped up to +65 dB, with a separate 31-step trim in 1 dB increments, so a signal can be pushed with gain and then brought back down. Each channel has phantom power, polarity invert, a fixed 75 Hz third-order high-pass filter and a choice of four mic input impedances.

The critical audio path has no potentiometers, mechanical switches or relays. Digitally controlled analogue circuitry, operated by detented pots and electronic switches, is used to keep channels matched and make settings easy to recall.

Inputs are eight rear combo XLR sockets, four front-panel Hi-Z/DI instrument inputs with automatic detection, and D-sub line inputs, inserts sends and returns. Digital connections are a USB audio interface for eight channels up to 32-bit/192 kHz, four AES/EBU output pairs, ADAT out and an auto-ranging word clock input and output. The AES and ADAT outputs can be switched to carry DAW playback from USB instead of the converter signal.
